restoration of the areas
affected by the Great East
Japan Earthquake

Message and report from
   the Yamato Group

Every package we deliver also carries hope.

April Report
It has been a month since Yamato began its program to help rebuild fishing and agriculture and restore infrastructure in areas devastated by the March 11 tsunami. For every parcel Yamato delivers, \10 will be donated for that purpose, which is also our way of repaying the kindness of the thousands of people in the affected areas who helped our parcel delivery business grow.
In April, Yamato handled 101,474,973 parcels, which raised a total of \1,014,749,730 for rebuilding and restoration. We are grateful to every one of our customers who used our delivery service. Your support has bolstered our determination to do everything possible to ensure the success of this year-long program.
In May, we will decide how our donations will be distributed, and in June we will report to you where the donations will go and who will receive them.
Right now, the air is filled with voices, songs, and messages of support for recovery. But there’s one thing we must remember in the midst of this atmosphere. It is that the affected areas are filled with people whose voices have no words. People for whom time has stood still since that fateful day. And people who stand unmoving, stunned by the enormity of their loss.
When we think about recovery and rebuilding, we must not be distracted by the atmosphere of recovery and must instead remain focused on the reality of those who are grieving, in pain, and perhaps unable to hear even the voices of support. We must listen closely to the smallest voice, and deliver from our hands what is needed. This, we think, is the mission of those of us who have worked closely with people in the local communities.
A donation of ¥10 for every parcel delivered—no matter how small the parcel or how far it travels in the country—means that every parcel we carry also carries a small seed of hope. We will deliver these parcels with great care in the hope that those seeds together may help us grow a brighter future.
We will never forget that there are pains that will never go away, that only those affected can know. Nor will we forget those who are trying to move forward, as well as those who are still unable to move. We will continue with our work. Next month, we provide you with a report for May 2011.
