About the donation for
restoration of the areas
affected by the Great East
Japan Earthquake

Message and report from
   the Yamato Group

Every package we deliver also carries hope.

An administrator has been selected to distribute funds collected by the Yamato
Group.

It has been three months since the Yamato Group began its program to donate
¥10 for every parcel we deliver to help rebuild the fishing and agriculture
industries, and restore infrastructure in the areas devastated by the March 11
earthquake and tsunami.

As of June 30, the number of parcels handled reached 318,283,873 (113,421,507 in
the single month of June) and the amount collected for donation rose to
¥3,182,838,730 (US$ need amount). For all of you who have contributed to this
total, please accept our sincere appreciation.

To date our effort has focused on collecting funds and we regret that it took
longer than anticipated to determine the most effective means of distributing
funds to the places they are needed most.

Now we are pleased to report that the Yamato Welfare Foundation has been
selected to administrate and distribute funds collected through the Yamato
Group donation program. To be clear, the Yamato Group does not operate the
Yamato Welfare Foundation. It is an independent, incorporated public interest
foundation established in 1993 by the late Masao Ogura, who developed Japan's
home delivery system. He started the fund with personal assets for the purpose
of helping mentally and physically challenged individuals become independent,
productive members of the community.

In the wake of the March earthquake and tsunami, the Yamato Welfare
Foundation established the “East Japan Great Earthquake Life, Industry
Infrastructure Recovery, and Rebuilding Relief Fund,” whose expressed
purpose is to help rebuild the industry and infrastructure of the affected areas.
On June 24, the fund was designated an incorporated public interest fund by
Japan's Ministry of Finance, which allows donations to be treated as tax-exempt
and used in their entirety in the affected areas for the purposes to which we are
committed. The fund’s focus on rebuilding the affected areas is the primary
reason why this organization was selected to administer the funds collected by
the Yamato Group.

The Yamato Welfare Foundation will also raise relief funds through sources
other than our donations. It has also formed a “Rebuilding Support Selection
Committee” comprised of independent, third party specialists whose job it will be to
ensure the validity and objectivity of how donations are used. The Yamato
Welfare Foundation will evaluate requests and proposals from the affected local
communities and provide funds for recovery and rebuilding projects on an
ongoing basis. The first recipient of funds will be determined in September.
Specific uses for the funds will be detailed on this home page based on reports
from the Yamato Welfare Foundation.

Last but not least, we are deeply grateful to all of you who have supported our
strong desire to repay the kindness given us by the fishery and agriculture
industries in the affected areas.
