About the donation for
restoration of the areas
affected by the Great East
Japan Earthquake

Message and report from
   the Yamato Group

Every package we deliver also carries hope.

Project Status Report: June 2012
Thanks to your help and support, ¥14,236,081,360 (US$178.3 million) in relief funds
were collected in the one-year period following Japan's earthquake and tsunami. Our
program to donate ten yen for every parcel we deliver concluded on March 31. The
East Japan Great Earthquake Life, Industry Infrastructure Recovery, and Rebuilding
Relief Fund—launched July 1, 2011 and administrated by the Yamato Welfare
Foundation—stopped accepting donations and applications for fund requests on June 30.
Since then, the fifth group of fund recipients was selected and the recovery and
rebuilding of the affected areas continues to move forward. Until the last yen that was
collected is spent, the Yamato Welfare Foundation will continue to provide funds to
support the affected areas in a tangible manner.

Here are the most recent updates:

The Yamato Welfare Foundation donated ¥300 million in February to a farmland
recovery project in Soma City, Fukushima Prefecture, which was devastated by the
earthquake and tsunami. The relief fund was used to purchase farm machinery to help
restore farmland in the area. On June 1, a ceremony was held to deliver farm
machinery to the agricultural corporations in the areas of Iide, Iwako and Minami
Iibuchi, where they are working to develop agriculture through the production and sales
of soybeans. In the ceremony, the mayor of Soma City and representatives of the
Yamato Welfare Foundation presented the keys to 18 tractors to the agricultural
corporations. Soma City, located in the northern part of Hamadori, boasts rich
farmland and pure water that flows in from Abukuma highlands. It is an area that
thrives on agriculture. However, the great tsunami of the East Japan Great Earthquake
washed out not only the farmland but also the farm machinery belonging to the farmers.
In addition, rumors surrounding the nuclear power plant accident are still causing great
harm. Relief funds used in support of the restoration and recovery of farmland to
produce soybeans will enable Soma City to lease farm machinery to farmers at no cost,
which farmers couldn't afford to pay for on their own. As a result, it is now possible
to expedite the recovery and restoration of farmland and local agriculture.

Among the third group of fund recipients is one that will use the money to relocate to a
safe location and construct a new building for Takekoma Nursery in Rikuzentakata City,
Iwate Prefecture. The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for July 30.

In August, the following construction and restoration projects will be completed:
 • Yotsukura Harbor Community Square regional promotion facility, Japan's only
roadside station within a fishing port (among the first group of fund recipients).
 • A low temperature farm produce storage house for the Sukagawa Iwase
Agricultural Cooperative (among the first group of fund recipients).
 • Ice-making and ice storage facilities at Ofunato Fish Market in Iwate Prefecture
(among the second group of fund recipients).
 • Temporary seafood processing park for the facilities of Kesennuma marine
product processing (among the fifth group of fund recipients).

One day at a time, various projects are taking shape.

The collection of donations and the requests for funds have concluded but our
commitment to provide visible, speedy, and effective support will continue. We will
also update you with the grand total of relief fund donations as soon as that number
becomes available.
